During my year in Melbourne I've gained so many weight, all I could blame is myself, and the BRUNCH! Here I recommend what my favourites are, once you've tried you know what I'm talking about. Forget about summer bods and sink in these fancy fooood! Let's get brunch!
Top 5 EGG BELLY from Humble Rays
Humble Rays is a good place for asian fusion brunch, who has pretty decoration and great ambience. But that't not why its queue is always too long, the food there tastes even better.
Ginger braised pork belly is the main for this egg belly dish, Miso and potato korokke (可樂餅) on the side topped with a perfectly cooked poached egg. The chilli bacon jam makes everything combined so well!
Top 4 SHAKSHOUKA from Workshop Brothers Glen Huntly
Glen Huntly is one of the most peaceful suburbs I've lived in Melbourne. And I found this popular cafe the day I arrived this area, because it's easily accessible from Glen Huntly station. The environment of the cafe is quite street style with red brickwall around and cool graffiti.
Shakshouka is my favourite at Workshop Brothers. The eggs on top are fully cooked, perfectly matched its tomato sauce basement with onion and chilli peppers. The crispiness of bread is decent with melted butter. Tasty, also instagrammable.
Top 3 AVOCADO HUMMUS TOAST from Journeyman
I love everything on Chapel Street, of course the Journeyman Cafe. This cafe never makes me feel like a dream fancy young girl as most popular cafes did, but a vintage style lade with her attractiveness of mature and elegance. Journeyman is also usually fully seated. Well, everything good deserves waiting.
If having a glance at the menu, all the food served is just normally named without surprise. Avocado Hummus Toast is a classic. No matter how many times the menu is renewed, this dish always has its position on it. Mushed avocado is well combined with hummus. Poached eggs are at perfect yolky. The highlight is honey candied bacon, an unforgettable surprising flavour. Perfect for a real meal on a leisure day.
Top 2 TUNA MILLEFEUILLE from Hash Specialty Coffee
Scallops...do I need to tell you any more? The portion is actually not enough for me, maybe because it's toooo good. Hash Specialty Coffee actually has never had my attention until I gave up queuing for Hardware Societe, which is just near Hash. This dish was definitely a big surprise for me and I love every single elements in this artistic brunch!
But there's a little bad news...I can't find it on their menu recently. Hope we can see it again soon.
💗The champion💗 RETURN OF THE MAC from Vertue Coffee Roasters
I know this look like the scene of the crime...especially the sauce, which is actually made of beetroot puree... Trust me, you'll get lost in it if you try. The mac&cheese croquettes are crispy and creamy enough, topped with decent slow braised ham hock and classic poached egg. My mouth is watering now......
Vertue Coffee is located in Carlton, which is so hard to find. To catch people's attention, they put a noticeboard saying "YES, We are open". Why not hide in a corner cafe in Melbourne and enjoy you happy brunch time?
